FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is an ATP Challenger 50 tournament?

The ATP Challenger Tour is the level just below the ATP Tour and serves as the springboard to the world elite. Here, tomorrow's stars play alongside established professional players chasing more ATP points and a higher world ranking.

How big is the tournament?

A Challenger 50 is an official ATP tournament featuring:

  • 32 players in the main singles draw
  • 24 players in qualifying
  • 16 doubles pairs

This means more than 70 professional players are expected to take part over the course of the week.

How many ATP points are at stake?

The singles champion receives 50 ATP points, enough to move significantly up the world ranking.

The point distribution is:

  • Winner: 50 points
  • Finalist: 25 points
  • Semifinal: 14 points
  • Quarterfinal: 8 points
  • 2nd round: 4 points
  • 1st round: 2 points

How much prize money is at stake?

A Challenger 50 has a total prize pool of around 63.000 USD (depending on the individual tournament and the ATP's annual regulations). The prize money is split between singles and doubles players.

What level are the players at?

The tournament typically attracts:

  • Players ranked roughly between world No. 80 and No. 300
  • Young international talents on their way to the ATP Tour
  • Former ATP Tour players and Grand Slam competitors
  • Danish players, who get the chance to compete against international opposition on home soil

Why does the tournament matter?

The ATP Challenger Tour is the official development level beneath the ATP Tour. Almost all of the world's best players, including Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune, played Challenger tournaments on their way to the top.

What does the tournament mean for Danish tennis?

The tournament gives Danish players the opportunity to:

  • Earn ATP points on home soil
  • Play international matches without long travel
  • Gain experience against strong foreign opponents
  • Enjoy the unique opportunity to play in front of a home crowd

What does the tournament mean for KB Tennis?

This is one of the largest international professional tournaments to be held at KB Tennis in many years. The tournament places KB among the hosts of official ATP tournaments and brings together some of the world's most promising professional players in Copenhagen.

Who can come and watch the matches?

Anyone interested in tennis can experience professional tennis up close. At Challenger level, spectators are often just a few meters from the players, offering an intense experience rarely found at the biggest ATP tournaments.

When is the tournament played?

The tournament runs over one week in December:

  • Sunday (1st round qualifications) 6th December : 10am
  • Monday (Maindraw Start & 2nd round qualifications) 7th December: 10am
  • Tuesday (1st round maindraw) 8th December: 10am
  • Wednesday (1st round maindraw) 9th December: 10am
  • Thursday (2nd round maindraw) 10th December: 11am
  • Friday (Quarter finals) 11th December: 12pm
  • Saturday (Singles semi finals + doubles finals) 12th December: 11am
  • Sunday (Singles final) 13th December: 1pm

How does a Challenger tournament differ from the ATP Tour?

The ATP Challenger Tour is the second-highest level in professional men's tennis. The top players on the Challenger Tour regularly qualify for ATP 250, ATP 500 and Masters 1000 tournaments, as well as Grand Slams.

Where is the tournament held?

The tournament is played at KB Tennis, Peter Bangs Vej 147, 2000 Frederiksberg, one of Denmark's most storied tennis facilities and home of Kjøbenhavns Boldklub (KB)

Where are the matches played?

All matches are played at Kjøbenhavn Boldklub's tennis facility, on two match courts. The court in between becomes our fan zone, the place to meet, eat, drink and soak up the atmosphere between matches.

Why is it special that the tournament is played at KB?

KB Tennis is one of Denmark's oldest and most successful tennis clubs, and has helped develop Danish national team players, national champions and international profiles for decades. With the ATP Challenger 50, professional men's tennis returns to one of Danish tennis's most iconic venues.

What can spectators expect?

Beyond top-class international tennis, spectators can look forward to:

  • Matches featuring some of the world's most promising players
  • The chance to see Danish profiles play on home soil
  • Close proximity between players and spectators, creating a unique atmosphere
  • Food and drink areas, sponsor activities and fan experiences throughout tournament week

What's included in my ticket?

Your ticket gives you access to every match on both courts, all day long. Doors open one hour before the first match.

Where can I find the schedule and start times?

The daily order of play is published on the tournament's official ATP Challenger page: www.atptour.com/en/tournaments/copenhagen/3179/overview.
