The Royal Library of Copenhagen is looking forward to presenting this special trio consisting of the japanese-danish pianist Makiko Hirabayashi along with drummer and percussion player Marilyn Mazur and bassist Klavs Hovman.
Hirabayashi moved to Denmark in the beginning of the 1990’s after her studies in the States. She is born in Japan and is known for her lyrical keystrokes and a friendly, reluctant nature. She has collaborated with several strong musicans from all over the world and across genres. Her own music carries elements from jazz, classical music, far-east harmonics and a homegrown nordic sound.
The trio has released a celebrated cd in 2009 at the highly acclaimed german Enja label. They played a sold-out concert in January 2012 on the Jazzclub Montmartre in Copenhagen. Christian Munch-Hansen from Denmarks biggest newspaper Politiken gave following review: “Her lovely trio with Mazur and Hovman has something that cannot be bought in gauges anywere.”
The concert in the Queens Hall of The Black Diamond is their only concert during Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2010.
