Koncerthuset - Guided Tour in English
VISIT KONCERTHUSET AT DR Byen (the home of the Danish Broadcasting Company).
KONCERTHUSET (Danish for “The Concert centre”), designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, opened January 2009 as the residence for DR's numerous ensembles - Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Chamber Orchestra, Danish National Vocal Ensemble, Danish National Concert Choir, Danish National Girls Choir, Danish National Childrens Choir, Danish National Sprouts Choir, DR Youth Ensemble and DR Big Band.
Events at Koncerthuset range widely in terms of size and genre: small-scale jazz concerts in the foyer, chamber music, choral, rock and pop concerts in the smaller concert halls Studio 2, Studio 3 and Studio 4 at level -1 and symphony concerts, guest appearances, large-scale rock and pop concerts and even boxing matches in the large Concert hall.
The Concert hall and three smaller scale studios are all very different. The Concert hall is an Arena Stage with seats for 1800 persons in the Auditorium and has been inspired by The Berliner Philharmonie in Berlin and Sapporo Concert Hall in Japan. Studio 2 with its rough plywood walls has been inspired by a warehouse or a film studio. Studio 3 with black high-gloss painted walls of MDF plates has been inspired by a grand piano and Studio 4 with its burgundy red metal walls shaped as Swiss chocolate Toblerone has been inspired by the voice and the heart. Red is the colour of Passion.
